Action in the Community
Just a few things you can do around Darwin and the Territory:
- Get a couple of neighbours together and start up a Sustainability Street!
- find a good enviro DVD such as An Inconvenient Truth, The Age of Stupid or No Impact Man and give them to:
- friends / family
- schools / teachers
- your local video store (and with the owner’s support, loan them out for free)
- ask your local bookshop to read, review and promote the books in our Readings section (under Get Informed), such as Climate Code Red by Spratt and Sutton
- read and share titles like these for your next bookclub:
- Climate Code Red by David Spratt and Philip Sutton
- Quarry Vision by Guy Pearse
- Now or Never by Tim Flannery
- Requiem for a Species by Clive Hamilton
- Meet with or write to your Local or Territory Member to talk climate - it's not as hard as you think, and they need our support to counter the pressure they get from big corporations!
- Lord Mayor Graeme Sawyer 0411 881 378 lord.mayor@darwin.nt.gov.au
- The Hon Paul Henderson MLA chiefminister@nt.gov.au
- If you’re a parent, meet with your child’s school Principal to talk sustainability in schools. Ask if they’re part of
- Energy Smart Schools Program with http://planetsavers.com.au/home/
- the Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative - NT (AuSSI-NT) http://www.environment.gov.au/education/aussi/contacts.html
- ask if they’re applying for any environmental project grants this year:
- NTG NRETAS renewable energy in schools project http://www.nt.gov.au/nreta/environment/grants/
- $50 000 grants National Solar Schools Program (NSSP) www.environment.gov.au/settlements/renewable/nationalsolarschools/ www.todae.com.au
